July 13, 2007 - Mark here... I just got off the phone with Michele and she gave me her almost 2-year update. The phrase that would sum it up best is when she said:

"It feels like I never had surgery...
I just can't believe it!"

From a past email from Clinton about the impact on the entire family; not just Michele:

"I got my wife back, the kids got their Mom back. We all got our lives back!"

She promises to tell us the full story...
more soon!

3/2/09 - Mark here... I just spoke to Michele. She's more than 3.5 years post-op and continues to do great. She says, no back pain at all. She's very fit and active... training for a marathon! I'm jazzed that I'll get to meet her in person soon as I have a trip to Minnesota coming up. She says that she wakesurfed her ass off all summer long. More photos coming soon!

You make me think that there is hope out there

I think your story is amazing. My name is Michele. I'm 32 and have 4 kids. I had my first back surgery when I was 19. I've done everything in my power to avoid anymore problems: exercising, staying thin, regular chiro visits. But, needless to say it wasn't enough.

For the last couple of years (since my last baby) everything has gone down hill, going from intermittent problems to constant and more acute. I now can hardly do anything and feel like I'm getting weaker all the time and cant do the exercises it takes to strengthen my back muscles. Basically for the last 8 months I hardly go anywhere.

Since my discogram a few days ago, my doctor told me I'm no longer eligible for an ADR since 3 discs are bad, my old discectomy on level L3-L4, and of course fusion of all is not a good alternative. So, I've basically been left with more meds. and more PT. Yippy!

I had lost all hope until I found this site. I don't even know if its possible for me, but at least thers a glimmer of hope to hold on to. Do you have any suggestions on what steps I should take next? And if this is a possibility for me, could you give me a ballpark guess as to the cost of it? I know I can't afford it but I know can't afford not to.

6 month follow-up x-rays, Michele H

Dear Dr. Bertagnoli, Dr. Fenk-Mayer and the entire Pro-Spine team.

I received an email from Michele's husband today with the pictures below.

I can't tell you how proud I am to be part of the process that connects patients to Pro-Spine and helping people who are so severely disabled to return to their lives. Having experienced this type of rebirth myself, there is no way to express how substantial a difference your work makes to so many patients. It is absolutely the difference between life and no life! Nothing less.

Thank you for everything you do!

Mark

Pictures of Michele

Dear Mark,

Here are some pictures of Michele! One pic of her driving last year - the first wave was scary but all last summer, probably 3x's a week we were out on the boat.
