Activ-L Artificial Disc
Biomechanically, the Activ-L implant is a semi-constrained implant.
It permits translation in the anteroposterior direction.
End plates are either spiked or keeled and are coated with both titanium and calium phosphate.
Anterior or oblique insertions are possible with a minimum disc height of 8.5mm.
Revision instrumentation is adapted to implant.
Clinical Data:
The Activ-L has been in comercial use in Europe since 2005, with more than 1000 discs implanted.
Commercial results have been favorable, with a low reported complication rate. To date, no implant-related complications or severe adverse events have been documented in the complany's complaint database.
A German clinical trial began in 2005, and a U.S. Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) clinical trial began in January of 2007 to compare the Activ-L disc versus the ProDisc or CHARITE implant.
